This course provides advanced training for the more experienced skipper. It equips you to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages by focusing on advanced navigation and meteorology skills.
Previous knowledge to RYA Day Skipper theory level is essential before joining this course. The knowledge you gain from this course will take you to the standard required for RYA Yachtmaster Coastal and RYA Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams.
The course is taught over 40 hours with three exam papers covering chartwork, meteorology and International Rules for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS).

Topics covered include:
Position Fixing
Course shaping and plotting
Tidal knowledge
Use of almanacs and admiralty publications
Electronic position finding equipment
Taking and interpreting forecasts
Plotting weather systems
Weather predictions using a barometer and by observation
Collision regulations
Customs and excise regualtions for cruising abroad
Course logistics
Courses are held at our marina (Royal Clarence) in Gosport and generally run between 09.00-18.00hrs each day- although you can expect some homework from your instructor too!
Course costs include refreshments throughout (teas, coffees etc) and packed lunch each day (with our now famous homemade cakes!).
Free parking is available at the marina. Local hostel or B&B accomodation is available and can be arranged if required (this cost is not included).
