Sailing beginners

With its fixed keel our 8 metre 'J80' has reassuring stability (so no capsizing) but all the fun of dinghy sailing ensuring that it holds your attention. It is suitable for all ages to learn to sail and we provide RYA courses for children and adults:

Beginners Courses (adults)
Level 1 (2 days) Introduces you to sailing with all you need to know to get afloat under supervision.

Level 1 and Level 2 combined (5 days) Introduces you to sailing and builds the foundations for you to sail with knowledge and confidence

Beginners courses (youth)
Stage 1 (2 days) provides a basic understanding of how to sail
Stage 2 (2 days) teaches a range of sailing skills and knowledge to help in becoming a confident sailor (Stage 1 and 2 can be combined over 4 days)

Build your sailing skills
Our short two day RYA courses are suitable for those who have completed their RYA Level 2 (or have the sailing ability to this level).

Sailing with Spinnakers
Teaches you everything you need to know about sailing with conventional or asymmetric spinnakers including how to rig, how to gybe and recover the spinnaker and how to sail the best possible course downwind.

Seamanship Skills
Increases your sailing skills to enable you to handle a boat in all circumstances including launching and recovery in a range of circumstances, stopping, reducing sail, man overboard and anchoring.

Day Sailing
Teaches passage planning and decision making for small boat cruising including pilotage and enables you to execute a cruise (if conditions allow)

Performance Sailing
Improves your boat handling and confidence to enable you to sail faster and more efficiently in all conditions (assumed knowledge is one season of sailing after completing RYA Level 2).

Keelboat Racing
One design rules ensure that racing our J80 is fair and very close! The class is rapidly growing in the Solent and our yacht, 'Wairua', is berthed in the heart of J80 racing territory, in the Hamble.

If racing appeals to you, come and give it a go. A J80 is described as a boat that 'rewards skill, not weight and muscle' so includes women as well as men and all shapes and sizes welcome!
